Praia de Atalanta is a beach on the north coast of the island of Boa Vista in Cape Verde. It is approximately 6 km northeast of the island capital of Sal Rei and 3 km west of Vigía, its length is 10 km. The wreck of the Spanish cargo ship Cabo Santa Maria, which ran aground on September 1, 1968, is located here.[1] The Cabo de Santa Maria, an island point is also located there.
The beach forms a part of Boa Esperança Nature Reserve (Reserva natural de Boa Esperança) which includes other beaches of Sobrado and Copinha.[2]
The Spanish ship was first built in 1957 at Bazan, Spain by Empresa Nacional. Its gross tonnage was 4,972 tons.
