Location

Caldecott MRT Station (CC17/TE9) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Circle Line in Toa Payoh, Singapore.

Unlike its namesake though, it is much closer to Lorong 1 Toa Payoh than Caldecott Hill and MediaCorp. It is situated on Toa Payoh Rise, a road on a hill that links Toa Payoh and Thomson estates. It is a 10-minute walk from Braddell station.

As the Bukit Brown MRT Station will only be operational after the Bukit Brown area has been developed enough, the section of track between Caldecott and Botanic Gardens stations is the longest on the Circle Line. This train moves at 80 km/h at this stretch.

Starting from 2020, Caldecott station will be an interchange station with the Thomson-East Coast Line.[1]

The station serves as a terminus of the Thomson-East Coast Line from 2020 to 2021, where it would be replaced by Gardens by the Bay as the third phase of the line opens.

History

When the Circle Line was initially planned, this station was planned to be a shell station and to be topped up and opened only when the surroundings were more developed. It was only announced quite later that Caldecott will be opened with the Stage 4 on 11 January 2007.[2]

Art in Transit

The artwork featured in this station under the Art in Transit programme is The Cartography Of Memories by Hazel Lim, located on the lift shaft in the station. The artist gathered responses from some 100 members of the public about their memories of the places they've lived in, and used phrases and words from the responses to create a literal text map of the Thomson area, where the station is located.[3]
