Valérie Plante (born in 1974) is a city councillor in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and the leader of Projet Montréal since December 2016.

Political life

City councillor

In the Montreal municipal election, 2013, Valérie Plante is elected councillor for Sainte-Marie, defeating former provincial minister and 2009 Montreal candidate for mayor Louise Harel. She is named opposition critic for downtown, tourism, and for women's affairs. She is also named vice president of city council, as well as substitute mayor for the Ville-Marie borough.

Leader of Projet Montréal

In the fall of 2016, Valérie Plante announces her run for the leadership of Projet Montréal. She goes on to win the leadership election with 51.9%, against remaining candidate Guillaume Lavoie, putting her on the slate to run for mayor against incumbent Denis Coderre in the Montreal municipal election, 2017.
