Taoyuan County was a county of the Republic of China in northern Taiwan before it was upgraded into special municipality in 2014. The county capital was Taoyuan.
History
Taoyuan County was established in Taiwan Province on 25 October 1950 split from Hsinchu County. On 21 April 1971, Taoyuan City was made the capital of Taoyuan County.[1] On 1 January 2011 Taoyuan County became the second Quasi-municipality. It was upgraded into a special municipality on 25 December 2014.[2]
Administration
At the time before the upgrade, Taoyuan County administered 6 cities, 1 urban township and 6 rural townships. All of these became districts of the city of Taoyuan.
