Sveio Church (Norwegian: Sveio kyrkje) is a parish church in Sveio municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Sveio. The church is part of the Sveio parish in the Sunnhordland deanery in the Diocese of Bjørgvin.[1][2]

History

The first time in historical records that a church at Sveio is named is in 1686. At that time it was an old stave church that was nearing the end of its use. In 1688, that church was torn down and rebuilt by the builder Oluff Bysemb from Osterøy. After about 170 years, the church was too small for the congregation, so the church was torn down and rebuilt in 1858. The white, wooden church was consecrated on 22 August 1858. This church was built by Andreas Grønning to seat about 630 people.[3]
