Sonya Harper is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives. Since her October 2015 appointment to replace the late Esther Golar, she has represented the 6th district, which includes all or portions of Armour Square, Bridgeport, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, Gage Park, McKinley Park, New City and West Englewood in the City of Chicago.[1][2] Harper is a member of the Illinois House Legislative Black Caucus.[3]

She has put forward a bill to serialize handgun ammunition by January 1, 2018, and as of the current time, it is scheduled for a hearing in the House. Currently, it has zero proponents, not even Ms. Harper herself, and 387 opponents, which would seemingly doom it to another gun/ammo grab failure.[4]
