This is a list of works of fiction set largely or wholly in 2000.
Film and television
- The Merrie Melodies episode "The Old Grey Hare" (1944) takes place in 2000.
- 1. April 2000 (1952): This satirical political film portrays Austria as still being closely watched over by the Allies even 55 years after the end of World War II and the defeat of Nazi Germany and the Axis, after negotiations for its independence fell through. Austria must prove that it will never again disrupt world peace at the fictitious 'World Court'.
- Le Plus vieux métier du monde (1967)
- Death Race 2000 (1975): This cult film predicts a future dystopian American society in which participants in the Transcontinental Road Race are awarded points for crashing into opponents' cars and running over innocent pedestrians, killing them.
- Hardware (1990) is set in 2000.
- Knight Rider 2000 (1991): Movie sequel to the cult sci-fi/crime-fighting TV series. In this film's vision of the (then-future) year of 2000, handguns are banned and criminals are cryogenically frozen instead of being incarcerated in prison due to national budget overhauls.
- Deep Impact (1998): A comet threatens to strike the Earth in 2000.
- Blues Brothers 2000 (1998)
- Futurama (1999–2013): In the pilot episode, the series' protagonist, Philip J. Fry, is celebrating the beginning of the New Millennium on New Year's Day 2000 when he accidentally falls into a cryogenic freezer and is put into suspended animation for 1000 years.
- Godzilla 2000 (1999)
Video games
- The House of the Dead 2 (1998) takes place on February 26, 2000.
Literature and comics
- The prologue to Eon (1985) by Greg Bear is set in April 2000.
- 2000 AD (1977–): As the title suggests, this British science-fiction comic series is set in the year 2000, which was in the (slightly) far future when the first issue was published in 1977, but it is now set in the past.
- Golf in the Year 2000 (1892) by J. McCullough: The protagonist, Alexander J. Gibson, falls into a deep sleep in 1892 and wakes up in 2000. This novel is well known for its shockingly accurate predictions (to modern readers) for the year 2000, such as digital watches, television, the conversion of British currency to the decimal system, and the women's liberation movement.
- Looking Backward (1888) by Edward Bellamy: Julian West falls asleep after being hypnotized and wakes up 112 years later to a socialist-Utopian Boston in 2000. This novel predicted some concepts which would later become familiar in modern society, such as Warehouse clubs, credit/Debit cards, and cable telephone.
