List of Fairy Tail chapters (volumes 1–15)
Fairy Tail is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima that has been translated into various languages[1][2][3] and spawned a substantial media franchise. The series follows the adventures of the dragon-slayer Natsu Dragneel, as he is searching for the dragon Igneel and partners with seventeen-year-old celestial wizard Lucy Heartfilia, who joins the titular guild. In Japan, the series has been published by Kodansha in Weekly Shōnen Magazine since August 23, 2006 and in tankōbon format since December 15, 2006.[4] The series spans over 500 chapters and 57 volumes.[5]
In the United States and Canada, Kodansha Comics USA and Random House publishes its English language adaptation of the series. It was originally published by Del Rey Manga beginning on March 25, 2008 and ending with their 12th volume in September 2010.[6][7] Since then, Kodansha Comics USA and Random House replaced Del Ray with the 13th volume in May 2011,[8] reprinting the earlier 12 volumes under their name.[9] Fifty-five English volumes have been released.[10]

Natsu attempts to rescue Erza from the Magic Council, only to discover that her arrest is merely a farce so the Council can display their authority over Fairy Tail. Still determined to prove his strength, Natsu steals an S-Class job request with Happy against Makarov's permission, persuading Lucy to join them. Gray is summoned by Fairy Tail to stop the three, but ends up getting dragged into the mission as well. The request details that the four must lift a curse off of Galuna Island that transforms the islanders into demons when they are exposed to moonlight. While investigating the island, they discover a frozen demon that Gray recognizes as Deliora, which his teacher Ur had sacrificed herself for to seal away. They also learn that Gray's fellow former student, Lyon Vastia, has assembled a cult of wizards on the island so he may resurrect and defeat Deliora in an attempt to surpass the late Ur, blaming Gray for her death.

Lyon dispatches his henchmen Sherry Blendy, Yȗka Suzuki and Toby Orrolta to destroy the islanders' village, but Natsu and Lucy are able to defeat them. Erza, having tracked down the wizards, arrives to return the four to the guild for punishment. However, Erza concedes when Gray stands up to her for the first time, stating his determination to stop Lyon no matter what. Meanwhile, Natsu sets off to stop the ceremonial Moon Drip spell meant to resurrect Deliora, leading his friends to follow him. Meanwhile, Gray tells his friends his story; in a flashback, a young Gray is taken in by Ur after his hometown is destroyed by Deliora, and later attempts to take revenge against Deliora. Ur, freezing herself and the demon at the cost of her own life, asks Gray to tell Lyon that she has died, sparking Lyon's resentment against Gray.

Having known Ur's survival, Lyon intends to melt her body and "kill" her. Enraged at this possibility, Gray defeats Lyon, but is unable to prevent Deliora's resurrection. However, Deliora is revealed to have already died while frozen. Everyone returns to the village to find that it has been repaired by Ultear Milkovich, Ur's daughter and a member of the Magic Council disguised as one of Lyon's henchmen. When the islanders reason the curse can only be lifted by destroying the moon, Natsu and Erza destroy the true cause of the curse—a magical membrane that formed over the island as a side effect of the Moon Drip ceremony. Furthermore, it is revealed that the curse did not transform the islanders into demons; rather, they had been demons all along, and the "curse" had affected their memories of it. The five return home to discover that their guildhall has been demolished by Gajeel Redfox, a dragon slayer from the rival guild Phantom Lord. When Gajeel assaults Levy McGarden and her friends, Makarov effectively declares war against Phantom Lord and commences an attack on their guildhall. Meanwhile, Lucy is captured by Juvia Lockser and Sol, two members of Phantom Lord's strongest team, Element 4.

She is rescued by Natsu shortly after and returned to their guildhall. Jose arrives with his forces to decimate Fairy Tail. Erza defends her guild by taking a blast from Phantom Lord's magic cannon Jupiter. Natsu, Gray, and Elfman Strauss enter Phantom Lord's fortress and destroy the cannon's power source, defeating one of Element 4's members, Totomaru, in the process. In response, Jose transforms the fortress into a giant robot and prepares to cast the destructive Abyss Break spell on the town. Disguising herself as Lucy, Mirajane Strauss hides the real Lucy away and distracts Phantom Lord by offering herself, but Jose sees through her disguise and nearly kills her. While searching for a means to stop the robot, Elfman battles with Sol and, upon seeing his sister wounded, defeats him using his Beast Soul transformation. After investigating, Lucy discovers that Loke is the celestial spirit Leo, who has been exiled from his realm for causing the death of his owner, Karen Lilica, in an effort to save his fellow spirit Aries from Karen's cruelty. Loke reveals that he will soon run out of energy in the human world and die. Natsu, Lucy, Gray, and Juvia go to the tower to find that Erza has already broken free, but Natsu goes deeper into the tower to find Happy. In a flashback, an eleven-year-old Erza, Jellal, and their friends are enslaved by a cult of evil wizards and forced to build the Tower of Heaven, which is intended to resurrect the ancient evil wizard Zeref. Erza leads a revolt to liberate fellow slaves, but Jellal is corrupted by a being purporting to be Zeref's spirit. Wishing to resurrect Zeref alone, Jellal continues the tower's construction, turning their friends on her and leaving her to escape on her own. Back in the present, Siegrain, a member of the Magic Council who resembles Jellal, persuades the council to destroy the tower with their most powerful weapon, Etherion.

Erza reaches the top of the tower and engages with Jellal, but fails to stop him before Etherion fires at the tower. However, the attack is instead absorbed by the crystalline lacrima inside the tower, sparing everyone inside. Jellal reveals that he (as Siegrain) has tricked the Magic Council into providing the tower with enough magical energy to resurrect Zeref. He attempts to use Erza as a human sacrifice, but Natsu rescues her and he and Jellal engage in a duel. Jellal decides he no longer needs Erza, and Simon protects her and Natsu from Jellal's fatal blow. Natsu eats the Etherion-infused lacrima in anger and achieves a higher form of dragon slayer magic called Dragon Force, which gives him enough power to defeat Jellal and destroy the tower. Erza merges herself with the lacrima to prevent it from exploding long enough for Natsu to escape, but Natsu saves her and the two escape alive.

Their objective completed, Natsu and Gajeel fight Laxus, but the two find their attacks to be ineffective as Laxus reveals himself to be the Thunder Dragon Slayer. Frustrated with his plans' failure, Laxus casts Fairy Law to destroy Magnolia. Levy arrives to tell him that Makarov is dying from the stress Laxus has placed on him, but Laxus dismisses it. After casting Fairy Law, however, he discovers that it does not affect anything as he does not truly consider everyone his enemy. Laxus nonetheless continues fighting before Natsu finally defeats him. |
