Degrassi: Next Class is the second incarnation of the Degrassi: The Next Generation series and is a Canadian teen drama television series created by Linda Schuyler, Yan Moore, Stephen Stohn, Sarah Glinski and Matt Huether.[1] In January 2016, it was released on Netflix internationally and currently airs on the new Family Channel teen block, F2N, in Canada. It is the fifth series set in the fictional Degrassi universe created by Schuyler and Kit Hood in 1979. Like its predecessors, Degrassi: Next Class follows a group of students from Degrassi Community School, a fictional school in Toronto, Ontario, and depicts some of the typical issues and challenges common to a teenager's life. Although this series is an incarnation of "The Next Generation", Netflix and the producers decided to begin with a "season one" instead.[2]

The first season began airing January 4, 2016 and concluded on January 15, 2016, in Canada. Internationally, it was released on January 15, 2016 on Netflix.

In Australia, the second season began airing on May 30, 2016 and concluded on June 10, 2016. It is set premiere on July 19, 2016 in Canada and stream July 22, 2016 on Netflix internationally.[3]

The series was renewed for a third and fourth season to contain 10 episodes each. Filming began May 16, 2016 for both seasons. Both are set to be released in 2017.[4]

As of June 10, 2016, 20 episodes of Degrassi: Next Class have aired, concluding the second season.

Future seasons

In April 2016, Netflix renewed the show for a third and fourth season with 10 episodes each. Both are expected to stream in 2017.[4]
