Kotturpuram (Tamil: கோட்டுர்புரம் ) is a locality in Chennai (Madras), Tamil Nadu, India.,[1] Ace carnatic musicians (Late) Shri MS Subbulakshmi and {Late} Shri D.K. Pattammal have made the place proud. Former Indian cricket board chairman and SPIC founder AC Muthaiya lives here. The neighbourhood is served by Kotturpuram MRTS railway station. It has Abirami-sivagami hall for marriage functions and MAC Spin Cricket foundation Next to it. It has the best badminton court which attracts film personalities like Ajith & Shalini . This court is next to minister Durai murugan's house.

Centuries old temples such as Perumal Koil (around 1000 years) and Ponniamman Koil[2](around 400 years) are situated in Kottur.

There are plenty of schools in this area offering excellent education.The most recognized schools are A.M.M. school and Anna Gem . Some other schools are DAV Senior Secondary School, Unity Public School, Eurokids etc.

Anna Centenary Library

Anna Centenary Library, one of South East Asia's largest library is located here. It is opened by Former Chief minister Dr.Karunanithi.[3] It has an aesthetic look. It has a famous braille section, own book section, etc. Many local shows were conducted in auditorium behind the library main building.

Administration details

This area has part of revenue village Kottur, which comes under Mylapore-Triplicane Taluk and part of revenue village (Zamin) Adyar, which comes under Mambalam-Guindy Taluk.

This whole area comes under Adyar Sub-Register office for any registrations and under Saidapet corporation for getting voter ID etc.

Kottur

(Zamin) Adyar & Kottur Village settlements of form this part.

Kottur Gardens

This area was developed by TNHB. The name "Kottur Gardens" is because it was Nawab's Garden which was later purchased by M.A.Chidambaram from whom acquired by Government of Tamil Nadu.

Kotturpuram

The TNSC constructed flats in the river bed, since it was on the dead end (No Bridge on the River in 1960-70) outside the main area i.e. Kottur hence Puram(meaning Exterior in Tamil) was added. This area lies West of Gandhi Mandabam Salai.

The MRTS Station at Kottur was named Kotturpuram MRTS Station to avoid confusion with Korattur Station and Kotturu Station. After this all three area is now know as Kotturpuram only!
