John Smeaton Academy is an Academy School in between Scholes, Cross Gates, Barwick-in-Elmet, Pendas Fields and Swarcliffe, in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.
History
The school is named after John Smeaton of Austhorpe, Leeds, the 18th-century civil engineer. The school has previously been called John Smeaton Community High School and John Smeaton Community College. The school's reconstruction, in association with Leeds City Council and a privately owned business, began in 2004 and was completed in 2007. The school was re-opened in 2008.
This school became an academy in 2014 sponsored by United Learning.
Academic performance
In the last section 5 Ofsted inspection in May 2012 the school was rated as 'Inadequate'.[1] As such the school was placed into special measures because "it is failing to give its pupils an acceptable standard of education and the persons responsible for leading, managing or governing the school are not demonstrating the capacity to secure the necessary improvement".[1]
