Horamavu ward (Kannada: ಹೊರಮಾವು) ([hoʊrəmɑːvʊ]) is spread over 17.5 km2 in KR Puram assembly constituency on the outskirts of East Bengaluru. With a population of 95,368. [1] It comes in Mahadevpura zone under the BBMP. Horamavu is the most populated of the city's 198 wards, going by Census 2011. Less than a decade ago, Horamavu's population was 28,167. The population has more than trebled, indicating the pace of growth in the city. Horamavu's population boom is not unique to the ward. It's a phenomenon visible in most wards lying on the periphery of Bengaluru. It comes in Mahadevpura zone under the BBMP.
Bangalore's average ward population is 42,644,[2] according to the 2011 population data collated by the BBMP restructuring committee. As many as 80 wards have populations ranging from around 40,000 to 95,000. A large chunk of them are located in greater Bengaluru region, the erstwhile city and town municipal council areas. Mahadevapura and Bommanahallli, Yelahanka along the Airport Road, Rajarajeshwarinagar and Dasarahalli are zones where these mega wards are located. Urban expert Lokesh Hebbani, adviser to the World Bank, attributes the reason for population growth in outer Bengaluru to the availability of land and scope for growth. Bengaluru's population went up by about 25 lakh from 2001–2011, and most of this happened in outer Bengaluru.

There is a level-crossing gate which is hardly a kilometre from the ring road on Horamavu/ Kalkere Main Road. It is closed for at least half an hour during morning and evening peak hours every day, creating huge traffic jams on both the sides. Although the railways has decided to phase out all level crossings in the area and replace them with overbridges or underbridges, the BBMP has to give land for the project and share 50 per cent of the construction cost. The BBMP and the railways, however, have been squabbling over the cost and the land in the project. There are a large number of apartment complexes nearby. To worsen the traffic problem, the track has been doubled. By September 2015, trains will run on both the lines and it will be even more difficult for motorists during peak hours.[4]
