Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest 1979
Austria took part at the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 in Jerusalem, Israel, represented by Christina Simon with the song "Heute in Jerusalem". Simon was selected by Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), the Austrian broadcaster, to represent the country at the contest, which took place on 31 March in Jerusalem.
At Eurovision
Simon performed 18th on the night of the contest, following United Kingdom and preceding the Spain. At the close of the voting the song had received 5 points, placing Austria joint last (with Belgium) of the 18th out of a field of 19 competing countries. The Austrian jury awarded its 12 points to Switzerland. [1]
