The Xavier Institute of Engineering (XIE) was established in the year 2005 to offer minority Roman Catholic students in India a technical education. The institute is managed by the Society of Jesus, Jesuits, and is affiliated to Mumbai University and AICTE New Delhi. XIE lies in the heart of Mumbai opposite S.L Raheja Hospital, a 15-minute walk from Mahim station.[1]
Staff & facilities
The principal is Dr. Y.D. Venkatesh, a mechanical engineer from Veermata Jijabai Technical Institute (VJTI). The College has 22 faculty members for the departments of IT and Computers, 14 for the EXTC, and 10 for Humanities and Applied Sciences. The non-teaching staff numbers around 48.
There are separate laboratories for each subject and for each field. There is also a large workshop situated on the ground floor. There are three separate staff rooms for the faculty. The TPO has separate rooms for Group Discussion, Interviews, and Pre-Placement Talks.
Cultural and technical festivals
The institutes hosts an annual, intra-college cultural festival called Spandan, which usually takes place in February. It includes singing, dancing, a fashion show, elocution, stage plays, and various other events. During the event the institute hosts a dinner for students and staff.
The College's technical festival "Transmission" first took place in 2009. It included robotics, LAN Games (such as CounterStrike, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Defense of the Ancients), and software programming contests. The highlight was the show where various rock bands were invited to play live for the college students. Transmission 2011 was an Inter-college event which attracted numerous participants from all over Mumbai.
