Western Primary School is a primary school located in Cold Bath Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England that was founded in 1897. It currently educates around 400 pupils under the Head Teacher Mrs Cheryl Smith who has been in post since 2002.

Performance

The School is notable for achieving a 0% unauthorised absence rate.[1]

The June 2004 Ofsted reports described it as "This is a good school with many very good features. Teaching is consistently good and all pupils achieve well. The headteacher, senior staff and governors lead the school very effectively. A very positive school ethos has been created in which all pupils feel truly valued, and all are included in activities. The school provides good value for money."[2]

The School was recognised as an Investor in People in 2002.[2] It achieved the Artsmark Silver award, by the Arts Council, in 2006.[3]

'Quiet Room' project

This school was the subject of the Western Primary School `Quiet Room' Project.[4]

In this paper, Angus King, headteacher of Western Primary School, a performance management consultant, a threshold assessor and a teacher trainer, with Zara Chantler, Key Stage 1 leader and SENCo at Western, describe the Western `Quiet Room' project, set up in 1999 as a response to the needs of pupils experiencing social, emotional and behavioural problems.[5]

Sport

In Five-a-side football the School reached the 2006 Ford FDS Schools Cup Final.[6]
