WebSpellChecker software is multi-language spell checking technology and services for web-based systems, founded in 2000 by SpellChecker.net, Inc. It is designed for integration to websites, email marketing tools, content management, help desk and customers relationship management[2] systems. Now WebSpellChecker free version is also embedded to CKEditor by default.
History
SpellChecker.net, Inc. was founded back in 1999[3] in the United States. A year later, the first version of the WebSpellChecker.net product was released. During the next 15 years it has been provided as a B2B solution that helps companies to create error free writing for their business and ensure accuracy and professionalism.
On June 7, 2016, the rights to the WebSpellChecker software was sold to a Ukrainian-based Limited Liability Company, WebSpellChecker LLC.[4]
Currently, WebSpellChecker LLC is a small product development company based in Kharkiv with a small dedicated team up to ten people.
Products and Integrations
WebSpellChecker software are designed to be integrated and used among multiple HTML editable controls such as input, textarea, iframe, tags with a content editable attribute (div, span, p, etc.), iframe and also provided as plug-ins for the most popular WYSIWYG editors like CKEditor[5] 4+ and TinyMCE[6] 4+. WebSpellChecker mainly provides three products: WebSpellChecker (WSC), SpellCheckAsYouType (SCAYT) and Web API.
- SCAYT provides a user ability to see and correct misspelled words while typing. All misspelled words are underlined. The user can apply corrections from the drop down menu with listed suggestions where needed.
- WSC works in a separate pop-up window and automatically returns corrected text to the form. It is also extended with English Grammar Checker and Thesaurus functionality.
- Web API provides a list of commands/interfaces in JSON/XML format that can be used to implement own spelling and grammar check strategy in web applications, websites and etc.
Business Model
WebSpellChecker is a commercial software product that can be licensed for running on-premises or as a SaaS (software as a service).
Their business model provides companies the ability to evaluate the software during a 30-day trial period with an option to purchase the license after the expiration of the evaluation period.
There are 3 options of the WebSpellChecker software product licensing: Free Hosted, Hosted, Licensed and OEM.
- Free version is available in CKEditor WYSIWYG editor with a banner ad. Both SCAYT and WSC products are supplied as plug-ins in a bundle with CKEditor.[7]
- Licensed version is a standalone application that is aimed to be installed on-premises. It has no usage limitations and provides perpetual license which will not expire. The Licensed version is designed for average and large businesses.[8]
- Hosted services is provided as Software as a Service (SaaS) as an annual subscription. It can be used across a list of customer’s domains but has some usage limitations: 10,000 spell check sessions per year, 50 simultaneous users for SCAYT, and 50,000 API requests per year.[9]
- (OEM) License provides the same functionality as the Licensed version but also allows distribution of the WebSpellChecker software product as a part of specific customer’s product to end-customers.

On-premises version of the WebSpellChecker software is fully compatible with both Windows and Linux-based platforms with installed and configured GCI-compatible web-server (IIS or Apache) or JE22-based application server (Apache Tomcat or Weblogic).
