Wafik El-Deiry, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine and Deputy Director of Translational Research at Fox Chase Cancer Center, where he is also Co-Leader of the Molecular Therapeutics Program.[1] He was formerly a Professor of Medicine and Chief of Hematology/Oncology at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He was also the Associate Director for Translational Research at the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute. Prior to his tenure at Penn State, he was an assistant investigator in cell biology at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and an associate professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Dr El-Deiry is among the top 40 most-cited researchers of the 1990s, having authored 13 papers that have been cited over 6,000 times. His paper, "WAF1, a potential mediator of p53 tumor suppression",[2] which has been cited over 5,000 times, is among the top 10 most-cited papers of the 1990s.
