WGTE began in 1953 as a low-power television station on the University of Toledo campus, with a broadcast antenna in the belltower of University Hall. It began regular operations in 1959, receiving a full license on October 10, 1960.
Current transmitter is located at 41.657350, -83.431250 (about 3 miles ENE of Oregon OH).[2]
WGTE has been digital-only since February 17, 2009.[3] The station's digital signal is multiplexed, with a high-definition feed of PBS programming on 30.1, a standard-definition "encore" feed of PBS programming branded as "WGTE Family" on 30.2, and a second standard-definition feed of Create on 30.3, which also airs programming from Ohio Channel (such as Government of Ohio and distance education programming) during overnight hours.
Educational Outreach (K-12)
The WGTE Educational Resource Center (ERC) provides schools services and educational materials which embrace 21st century learning skills and enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum. ERC programs go beyond the “plug and play” of traditional technology training and focus on effective integration strategies, hands-on interaction with technology and alignment to Ohio Academic Content Standards.
