Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) is one of the premier engineering college situated in Mysore, Karnataka, India. It is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University. It offers courses on Computer Science, Information Science, Electrical and Electronics, Civil Engineering Mechanical, Electronics and Communication and Environmental Engineering.

Description

Main administrative block

Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering is an engineering college affiliated to the Visveswaraya Technological University and recognised by the Government of Karnataka and the All India Council for Technical Education. Programs of study offered include bachelor's degrees in mechanical, electronics, computer science, information sciences, electrical and environmental engineering. The college was founded by the VidyaVardhaka Sangha in 1997. Vidyavardhaka Sangha is in Mysore. Veterans like Late Sahukhar Chennaiah & Late K. Puttaswamy former minister of Karnataka established the sangha during the year 1949.

The college is located in Gokulam, a residential suburb, 6 km (3.7 mi) north of the city and 4 km (2.5 mi) from the city railway station.

Activities

The college organizes an annual cultural event Vidyuth, in which students from the other colleges in the city participate. Since 2004, VVCE Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers student branch organizes an annual technical symposium called IMPULSE.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organizes its annual fest CRUSADES in which various students of Mechanical, Industrial Production, and Automobile from the city participate. Crusades has so far drawn lot of attention among the events held in VVCE. Crusades was for the first time organized by Mechanical Engineering students of 8th semester. It was one of the kind event, which set a precedent for many events to follow. Crusades had a total of 20 events which attracted hundreds of students across the city. Crusades was instrumental in organizing a marathon attracting 350 students from all over Mysore. The Mechanical Engineering department also organizes a series of Technical Talks called SETME. Association of Students of Computer and Information Science Engineering, ASCI. The association organizes a yearly event called TechnoBlitz, which started in 2007, and is a technical symposium focusing on current trends in the computer industry.

The new group of Computer Science department called as TECSA holds two main events every year, one is Synapse and the other is Fragg Zone. Synapse includes various technical events which is focused mainly on Computer Science and Fragg Zone is a gaming event. Synapse and Fragg Zone have seen good success in the past two years, that is from the time of formation of Tecsa and both of the events are run by students only, taking minimum monetary aid from the department. Future plans of Synapse includes, but not limited to getting various public figures to speak for the students of CS Department, to guide them into an excellent future.

College students are known for participating in various social service activities like blood donation, AIDS awareness and Tree plantation. In order to imbibe recent trends and technologies among the students Seminars and special lectures are frequently held.

The college recently inaugurated various clubs which are run by the students.

Campus

The campus is designed with main preference to the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering departments, both of which are close to the main gate of the building. The mechanical department is offset for some distance from the main building.

It has a large ground which acts as a stadium for cricket, football and concerts. Concerts for various college festivals are held in the same ground.
