The Valentinian Exposition or the Valentinian Exposition with On the Anointing, On Baptism A and B, and On the Eucharist A and B is a gnostic document of the Nag Hammadi Library placed in Codex XI. The document is a study of Valentinian liturgical readings.[1][2]
Content overview
The text derives from five separate texts, which teaches sacraments of Christianity with gnostic influence.[1]
Much of the text teaches Valentinian sacraments such as baptism, redemption of the soul, and bridal chamber. The text also details God restoring the "spiritual seed" into heaven and the unity of the "spiritual seed" with the angels in pleroma.[1]
Manuscripts
The document comprises pages 22–44. The text is in poor condition with half of the text now lost. It is unknown whether the text did have a title or not, if it did, the title is now lost. The work was named by modern scholarly according to its content by placing the remaining content together to produce Valentinian doctrine. [3]
