Dr. V. K. Govindan (born April 30, 1950) is a professor, retired from [2] the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at National Institute of Technology, Calicut. He has received bachelor's and master's degrees [3] in electrical engineering from Regional Engineering College Calicut (now NIT Calicut) in the year 1975 and 1978, respectively. He has obtained [4] PhD degree from one of the premier institute in India, IISc Bangalore. He has more than 35 years of teaching experience at under graduate and post graduate levels. He served as Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Calicut during the years 2000 to 2005. He was Dean Academic [5] of NIT Calicut during 2011 to 2014.

His research areas include [6][7] Image processing, Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Data Compression, Document Imaging and Operating Systems.

Work

He devoted his life to study, teaching and doing research. He has more than 165 research publications [8] including 90 international Journal papers, and authored [9] 20 books. He has evaluated many PhDs thesis and produced seven [10] PhDs. Currently, he is guiding ten [11] PhD scholars. He has also refereed many papers for Journals and conferences.[12]
