Upper Warlingham railway station serves Whyteleafe and Warlingham in Surrey, England, in London Travelcard Zone 6.
Description
Train services are provided by Southern with no special services – the station is on the Oxted Line. The station is approximately 150m (geographically) from Whyteleafe railway station, to the north-west, on a nearby mainly parallel and shorter line from London, the Caterham Line, due to the grid of roads around these lines about 200m along these.[3]
On the London-bound platform, there is a manned ticket office (staffed for most of the day) and a self-service PERTIS (PERMIT TO TRAVEL) passenger-operated coin-in-the-slot ticket machine is available for when the booking office is closed e.g. late evenings. Outside the station is a self-service passenger-operated ticket machine.
The station is included in London Zone 6.
The "Upper" prefix originated because what is now Whyteleafe South station on the Caterham line, approximately 600 yards to the south west, was previously (until 1956) called Warlingham station and the prefix was originally necessary to differentiate them, Whyteleafe South station being lower down in the valley. Somehow the prefix survived the change in 1956.
Train services
The typical off-peak service in trains per hour is:
- 2 to London Victoria
- 2 to East Grinstead
Additional trains to London Bridge and East Grinstead serve during peak hours.
Recently trains between Uckfield and London Bridge began stopping here in early mornings and evenings.
Services from East Grinstead to London Bridge are due to transfer to Thameslink in 2018. Enabling direct services to Bedford and Cambridge.
