The University of Missouri-St. Louis Police Department (UMSL PD) is the law enforcement agency of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, a public research university located just outside of St. Louis, Missouri.
The UMSL Police Department is one of only 11 police departments in St. Louis County and St. Louis City to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).[2]
Police officers appointed by the University of Missouri System have the same power and authority held by peace officers of the state of Missouri.[3] The agency’s primary jurisdiction is UMSL property, which includes the main campus plus other UMSL-owned or leased facilities.[4]
USML police officers also have jurisdiction throughout St. Louis County through a Memorandum of Understanding with the St. Louis County Police Department.
Between three and five officers are on patrol at any given time.
History
The agency has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies since 2000.[5][6]
On December 14, 2014, an UMSL student reported being forced into a parked car and raped on campus. After investigation, it was determined that the student's report was false, and had never actually occurred.[7]
On January 14, 2016, the UMSL Police Department promoted Marisa Smith to the rank of Captain, the first female minority to hold that position in the department's history.[8]
