Ueda, Nagano (former city)
The former city of Ueda (上田市 Ueda-shi) in Nagano Prefecture, Japan is legally recognized as a separate municipality from the present city of Ueda that replaced the former city. The city was founded on May 1, 1919.
As of 2003, the city had an estimated population of 125,458 and the density of 709.89 persons per km². The total area was 176.73 km².
On March 6, 2006, Ueda absorbed the towns of Maruko and Sanada, and the village of Takeshi (all from Chiisagata District) to create the new and expanded city of Ueda.
