Oday Talib (Arabic: عدي طالب) (born 6 November 1977 in Iraq) is an Iraqi goalkeeper who plays for Duhok FC in Iraq.[1]
Info
Having served as back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Noor Sabri throughout Iraq's run to the semi-finals of the Men's Olympic Football Tournament at Athens 2004, Oday Talib looks set to reprise this deputy's role at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. This does not mean, however, that the 27-year-old is not qualified for a starting place should Bora Milutinovic opt to make a change. Indeed, he has been preferred to Sabri before, although 90 minutes in a 4–1 FIFA World Cup Germany 2006 qualifying win over Chinese Taipei on 8 September 2004 must seem like an age ago to the keeper himself.
His fine form with the national team did not last long though, as the next year's West Asian Games saw him return to the bench, while Sabri reclaimed the No. 1 shirt, impressing in the penalty shootout win over Syria in the final.
Talib has made a more significant impact at club level than he has on the international stage. He began his career with Al Shorta in 2002, making his name and earning a move the following season to Bagdad-based giants Al Zawraa. After spending three years there, Talib went on to play for Al Minaa before being signed by his current club, Duhok FC, an Iraqi-Kurdish outfit based in Dohuk.
