UC Riverside Student Recreation Center is a 3,168-seat, indoor multi-purpose stadium on the campus of the University of California, Riverside in Riverside, California.

History

UC Riverside Student Recreation Center (SRC) was opened on January, 11 1994. This state-of-the-art facility was constructed entirely from student fees, and is available for UCR students who want to engage in physical fitness, sport activities, and general recreational use. The 155,000 square feet (14,400 m²) structure includes a large swimming pool and spa, tennis courts, an indoor running track, a new gym with multiple courts, classroom kitchen, triple the cardio and weight space, an indoor climbing wall and boulder. The SRC Arena seats up to 3,168 people, and is host to the UC Riverside Highlanders athletic teams. In the Summer of 2003, a new public address system and sound enhancing tiles were installed to improve fans' viewing and listening experience. On October 3, 2014, the expanded SRC had a grand opening event which included popping a 1/2 mile of bubble wrap for a world record attempt, followed by a day of activities and prizes. ^[1]^[2]^[3]

Amenities

In addition to full locker rooms, 6,000 square feet (560 m²) weight training facility, and 3,000 square feet (280 m²) area dedicated to cardio-fitness machines, the Student Recreation Center has many different sporting courts for students to use. Some notable areas include the hardwood basketball court, four racquetball/wallyball courts, and one squash court. It also has three multipurpose rooms.

UC Riverside Highlanders athletics

The athletics department for UC Riverside, the UC Riverside Highlanders call the Student Recreation Center home. Programs that use it include the UC Riverside Highlanders men's basketball and UC Riverside Highlanders women's basketball teams, as well as the UC Riverside Highlanders women's volleyball team. Previously, the teams played in the UCR Gym which was built in 1955 and has 900 seats.

Other uses

Student Recreation Center's main function is for the well-being of the UC Riverside student population through physical fitness and intramural sports. It has also hosted events including student commencement ceremonies, conferences, and musical bands and acts.
