UCLA Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies
The UCLA Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (UCLA-CMRS) promotes interdisciplinary research of the medieval and early modern eras in order to better understand scientific, technological, environmental, social, political, artistic, and cultural issues that are rooted in the past yet resonate still in our time. UCLA-CMRS provides student and post-doctoral fellowships and awards; organizes conferences, seminars, and lectures; publishes academic journals and books; and, supports scholarly research through faculty project administration.
The Director is Professor Massimo Ciavolella (UCLA, Italian Department).

Awards and Fellowships
- Ahmanson Research Fellowships for the Study of Medieval and Renaissance Books and Manuscripts - awarded on a competitive basis to graduate students or postdoctoral scholars who need to utilize UCLA Library Special Collections for their research.
- Fredi Chiappelli Travel Fellowships - for research travel for UCLA graduate students.
- George T. and Margaret W. Romani Fellowships - substantial award for UCLA graduate students nominated by their academic department
- Lynn and Maude White Fellowship - substantial award for UCLA graduate student for dissertation research and travel.
- Research Assistantships - for UCLA graduate students
- Conference Travel Grants - travel reimbursement for UCLA graduate students to attend conferences, symposia, or meetings of professional organizations to present their research or scholarly papers.
