Townsend Press (TP) is an American independent publisher of educational materials for students in grade school through college. The company was founded in 1986 by John Langan, a professor of developmental reading and writing at Atlantic Cape Community College. Based near Philadelphia, Townsend Press specializes in producing materials that engage students and energize classrooms. Townsend Press publications include the popular Ten Steps Reading Series, the Townsend Vocabulary Series, The Bluford Series, The King School Series, and The Townsend Library. Along with producing books, Townsend Press also supports a variety of educational organizations that work to improve literacy in schools and communities where funding is scarce.
