Toni Braxton concert chronology |
The Toni Braxton: Revealed is the first and only Residency show by the American singer Toni Braxton. The show is performed at The Showroom at the Flamingo Las Vegas until the announcement of its cancellation on April 6, 2008.[1]
Background and development
On May 19, 2006, the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas announced that Braxton would replace Wayne Newton as the casino's new headlining act from December 3, 2006.[2] The show, entitled Toni Braxton: Revealed, was to be performed six nights a week and was scheduled to run through to March 2007. Braxton later confirmed that she was extending her show through to August 2007. Due to its success, it was reported that Braxton would extend her show through to August 2010. The show was later cancelled in order for Braxton to focus on her health.[3]
In an October 2006 concert at the Flamingo Las Vegas, Braxton broke down in tears while announcing to the audience that just before the concert began she had been told that her son, Diezel, had been diagnosed with autism.[4] Braxton has been outspoken regarding her doctor's failure to diagnose Diezel's condition earlier, contending that if he had been diagnosed earlier he could have received treatment earlier.[5] As well as becoming a spokeswoman for Autism Speaks,[6] she is also a spokeswoman for the American Heart Association.
Reception
The show received mixed receptions according to Mike Weatherford of RJ, Toni Braxton has Become Smart About accentuating the positive During the past year and a half at the Flamingo. No one doing the Vegas thing this week Should mind if her rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is memorable less for the singing than for the singer's peekaboo Holy suit.
Santa Has His elves. Braxton has "the cousins," as she calls them, or Alternately, "Siegfried and Roy making a comeback."
Amid all the hoopla surrounding Celine Dion's end shows last weekend, Las Vegas' other pop-star mom working forged on with "Revealed," a revue That runs on a fraction of the budget of "A New Day ..." but Likewise you Become a smoother, more graceful showcase over time.
Braxton is a year older than whos Dion; she turned 40 on Oct. 7. But she's still reliable to work the spangly mini-outfits and the sex appeal cultivated through the steamy video That Accompanied her run of hits in the 1990s.....[7]
