Tomasz Czechowicz (born June 1970) is a Polish businessman. He is the founder and co-owner of MCI Capital SA, private equity venture capital funds headquartered in Warsaw and listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. According to the Polish edition of Forbes magazine, Czechowicz is one of the richest Poles.[1] Czechowicz runs a group of venture capital funds investing in Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Russian Federation and Turkey[2] largely in technology and internet-based companies.

Education and early career

Tomasz Czechowicz is a graduate of Wrocław University of Technology, Warsaw School of Economics and Executive MBA at the University of Minnesota.

Czechowicz imported Commodore 64s computers to Poland, becoming one of the company’s largest European customer. By 1991, he had made his first million, and a year later the company he founded with a group of friends, JTT, was assembling its own computers and selling more than 1m a year.[3] In 1999, Czechowicz opened a venture capital fund, MCI Management (now called MCI Capital).[4]

Business ventures

Tomasz Czechowicz is the years 1990-1998 was the co-founder and CEO of JTT Computer SA, which he built into a leading Central European PC-assembly and distribution operations with USD 100M+ revenue.[5] In 1999 Czechowicz founded MCI Group. According to the Wall Street Journal MCI is one of leading private equity groups in Poland.[6] The value of assets managed by MCI reaches 1.5 bln PLN (>500 mln USD). Through MCI Group Tomasz Czechowicz has so far executed above 60 investment projects and executed over 30 full exits. He is focused on the growth of digital opportunities in CEE, DACH (Germany and Austria), CIS (Russia and other former Soviet Union countries) and Turkey.[7] MCI Capital SA is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since February 2001. MCI is also a member of the Polish Private Equity Association[8] and the Polish Association of Stock Exchange Issuers.[9]

Other activities

Czechowicz is a laureate of numerous awards: The TOP Manager of the Year 2007 prize, in 2001 the World Economic Forum awarded him with the title of Global Leader for Tomorrow.[10] In 2000 he was chosen one of the TOP-10 most influential people in the European Internet by European Edition of Business Week.[11]
