Tim Emmett
Tim Emmett is a British-born adventure climber. One of the world's top all around climbers, he has done ice, rock, deep-water solo, traditional, (styles of rock climbing) and para-alpinism.
Life Achievements in climbing have been:
-Nomination for Piolet D'or for climbing Kedar Dome in Pakistan with Ian Parnell.
-Red Bull White Cliffs Champion in 2016.
-3 time Ice Climbing World Cup podium standing.
Early life
Emmett started climbing on a school trip to a local British Crag when he was 15. At the age of 19 he landed his first magazine cover on British Climbing magazine - "On The Edge." Following that he found a sponsorship deal with an American Company Mountain Hardwear.
Climbing
He has been a leader in helping boost deep-water soloing into mainstream climbing, and as off 2016 holds the world's highest graded ice climbing route.[1]
Deep-water soloing, without ropes or gear, and the ocean as the safety net, originated on the coasts of Dorset so Emmett was well positioned at the right age to help take it forward. In 2003, a short film 'Psicobloc' by American brothers Josh and Brett Lowell on the sport went on to win awards globally.[2][3]
With para-alpinism, he merged two high adventure sports together—BASE jumping and big wall climbing. After ascending a large wall on vertical rock, he put a parachute on to descend down. Only a handful of people do this type of climbing, and he himself retired from it at the age of 40 due to its high risk.
Media
Emmett has appeared in more than 50 magazines that of which include Outside Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Gripped, Grip, Desnivel, GQ and others. He is a well-renowned motivational speaker for students and fellow adventure sportsmen. He has presented the Duke Of Edinburgh Award twice at St. James's Palace.
Television appearances
Emmett has made frequent appearances on the BBC both as a presenter and guest. Appearances include: "Ultimate Rock Climb" with Julia Bradbury, "The Great Climb" with fellow British climber Dave MacLeod and "Top Gear" with Jeremy Clarkson racing up a mountain with Leo Houlding. Tim has also worked with Steve Backshall on his children's show and personally partnered with him on a trip to Baffin Island in 2012.
