Tim Ablitt was appointed Chairman of the English Defence League (EDL) in October 2013[1][2] after Tommy Robinson stood down.[3] Ablitt, of Poole, Dorset,[2] had previously been organiser of the South West England branch of the EDL. He was arrested in July 2010, along with five other EDL members, over a suspected bomb plot on a Bournemouth mosque and released without charge.[1][2] Ablitt was involved in an unsuccessful bid to merge the EDL and the British Freedom Party.[1]
