1451"Not Your Brother's Drop Off"Lee Shallat ChemelTim HobertSeptember 23, 2015 (2015-09-23)4X71018.21[1]
The Hecks prepare to drop off Sue and Axl at college, but face obstacles. Axl has an extra week before his classes begin and doesn't want to go with the family, but Sue insists because they all went with Axl two years ago. Frankie can't bring herself to cry like she did when Axl was leaving, while Mike shows his love for Sue by trying to teach her life lessons. Meanwhile, Brick starts eighth grade and is worried when Cindy says they should take their relationship to the "next level", as he has no idea what the next level is. In the end, Frankie realizes she's not upset about Sue leaving because she's confident Sue will do well at college, whereas she was very worried about Axl being on his own.
1462"Cutting the Cord"Danny SallesRich DahmSeptember 30, 2015 (2015-09-30)4X71027.91[2]
A lonely Sue is texting Frankie at all hours because her dorm roommate still hasn't arrived on campus. Mike insists Frankie has to cut the cord with Sue, but when she does, Sue just starts texting Mike instead. Things get worse when the roommate, Holly, shows up, and she is a hard-partying junior with no interest in being sociable. Meanwhile, Brick learns he has a protector at school, but gets a little creeped out when the boy starts following him around. Axl and Hutch deal with a rash of ants in their apartment. Later, Axl invites Sue to have pizza with him, and she is surprised to learn that Axl also missed home a great deal during his first couple of months on campus.
1473"The Shirt"Lee Shallat ChemelJana Hunter & Mitch HunterOctober 7, 2015 (2015-10-07)4X71037.30[3]
Mike and Frankie have dinner with the Norwoods, and, instead of wearing one of his favored plaid shirts, Mike wears a Hawaiian one. This causes surprise and shows new sides of Mike's personality, as he also buys a motorcycle. With Axl and Sue now in college, Brick realizes he's the only one that has to deal with chores. He thus tries to clean the bathroom following instructions in a YouTube video, but ends up destroying the wall on one side of the bath. Sue is thrilled that she can sign up for whatever campus activity she likes. She goes to the activities fair with Devin Levin, telling her that Axl loves her and might even marry her one day. Devin gets scared and breaks up with Axl, who accuses Sue of being the culprit and will not let her talk to him anymore. Sue, with the help of the a cappella group she has joined, sings a song to Devin that suggests Axl is not really in love with her. Devin meets Axl and the two reconcile, both agreeing that while in college they should just hang out and have fun.

Mike helps his brother with his new business idea for printed "rivalry" disposable diapers, despite Frankie's fear that it will be a failure. Sue comes home and visits Brad, who finds out she's been sleeping in her car because Holly's boyfriend is always in the dorm room. They then pretend to be a couple to make Holly leave the room, but fail. Eventually, Sue works up courage to talk about this uncomfortable situation to her RA. Axl is back home and determined to convince his parents that he should be trusted to ride the new motorcycle. He starts doing 'dangerous' things to prove he knows how to be safe. Brick is glad his siblings are home so they can help him with chores and asks for Axl's help with his new desire -- being allowed to walk home alone from the library at night.
1495"Land of the Lost"Lee Shallat ChemelRoy BrownOctober 21, 2015 (2015-10-21)4X71057.08[5]
Mike is mopey and upset but doesn't say why, so Frankie calls Reverend Tim-Tom hoping he'll find out what is worrying Mike. It turns out Mike can't cope with Frankie turning 50, taking it as a sign they are both getting close to death. Sue organizes a tour of the East Indiana State campus for Brick. While walking Brick around, she meets Logan, whom she hasn't seen since prom. Logan asks her out, so Sue tells Brick to go to the library and wait for her, but of course she later loses him. She starts searching for Brick and is afraid she might not be able to see Logan, but he helps her look. Eventually, Sue finds Brick (it turns out there are 12 libraries on campus) but loses Logan. Axl and Hutch want to complain to their landlord about the conditions at the rental house, only to find out they've been paying rent to a fake landlord. The real one evicts them, so Axl, Hutch and Kenny temporarily move into the Heck's home.

Meanwhile, at home, Axl, Hutch and Kenny get scared when a person dressed up as Death knocks on the door and keeps standing in the garden staring at the house. They eventually pack up and leave. Brick goes to the Orson Heights part of town with Mike to get better candy and finds out there is a woman, Cindy, married to a man who loves books, looks like Brick, and whose surname is Heck. All these strange coincidences make him think he is a time traveler. "Death" ends up being Cindy in costume, who was waiting in the yard for Brick to get home.

Frankie worries that her visiting mom will embarrass her at the tailgate party, only to have Sue become embarrassed of Frankie. She is then forced to go to a convention in Des Moines, Iowa, which she is less than thrilled about attending. She ropes Mike into going with her, given that the trip's expenses are covered. While there, the two are excited to find that the hotel room has more bells and whistles than their house. They begin raiding the room's mini bar, ordering room service, and renting movies, only to later learn from Dr. Goodwin that the "extras" aren't covered in the convention expenses. Meanwhile, the household is not enjoying Axl's company. Sue has an extra bed in her dorm room and, much to her dismay, Axl begins staying there. Her attitude soon turns around when Axl's popularity gets her noticed by the other students who visit her room.
