Telehouse America is a data center services provider in the United States with carrier-neutral colocation facilities in New York City, Newark and Los Angeles, as well as international Internet exchanges, managed IT services and disaster recovery solutions.[1] In 1996, Telehouse America launched the New York International Internet Exchange point (NYIIX), Manhattan's largest and most heavily trafficked peering exchange, as well as established the first Los Angeles International Internet Exchange point (LAIIX), a peering gateway to the Asia-Pac Rim.
Together with its parent company, KDDI and sister company Telehouse Europe, Telehouse America operate a total of 44 Telehouse-branded global data centers in 23 cities throughout Asia, Africa, North America and EMEA.
Operations
Telehouse America operates three SSAE 16 Compliant, carrier neutral data centers and colocation facilities in New York City, and one in Los Angeles. SSAE 16 is also known as "SOC 1". SSAE 16 replaced SAS 70 on June 15, 2011. An SSAE 16 report is required if performing a service for a publilly traded company that impacts their financial statement.[2]
Headquarters – 7 Teleport Drive, Staten Island, New York Telehouse America’s headquarters and first operational facility is the SSAE 16 certified Teleport Center, first opened for business in 1989. The flagship data center is Telehouse America’s largest facility, boasting 162,000 square feet of space.
25 Broadway, Manhattan(Location has been shut down since 10/2013)
Telehouse America’s SSAE 16 certified Broadway Center carrier hotel, also known as 25B, is located in the historic Cunard Line building at 25 Broadway, in downtown New York City, a few short blocks south of Wall Street. Another celebrated landmark, the famous Wall Street Bull, stands just across the street. 25B offers 85,000 square feet of colocation space on two floors (5th and 6th), protected by redundant infrastructure and 24/7 on-site security staff.

Telehouse America’s newest east coast location, TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea, is located between Manhattan’s Chelsea and Meat-Packing districts at 85 10th Avenue. This 7th floor, ultra high-tech facility offers 60,000 square feet of colocation space, accessible to authorized Client personnel on a 24/7 basis, along with the full scope of TELEHOUSE’s IT support services ranging from “remote- hands” to the full “Manage-E” family of IT services.

Located in the center of Los Angeles' hi-tech district, Telehouse America’s Los Angeles Center is a gateway for connectivity from the United States to Asia. Also known as 626W, this data center facility is home to the LAIIX (Los Angeles International Internet eXchange) peering exchange.

Peering exchanges
Telehouse America offers two metro peering connections: The New York International Internet Exchange, NYIIX, has a seamless scalable fabric with a 10GigE interface speed supporting both IPv4 and IPv6, is available from almost all the major carriers hotels in New York City, including 25 Broadway (25B), 85 10th Avenue (TELEHOUSE Chelsea), 60 Hudson Street, 111 8th Avenue, 32 Avenue of the Americas (32AoA) and 7 Teleport Drive in Staten Island.
The Los Angeles International Internet Exchange, LAIIX, also has a scalable fabric with a 10GigE interface speed supporting both IPv4 and IPv6, and is available from TELEHOUSE’s 626 Wilshire Blvd. and the One Wilshire carrier hotels.
History
- 1983: Construction begins for The Teleport, the largest teleport project to date and eventual home to the Telehouse Center. Project aims to develop 100 acres for office space and 17 satellite earth stations for domestic communications and regional hook-up to regional fiber optic systems.
- 1987: Telehouse America established with Dr. Yasuo Fukata, who is appointed as Company's First President and CEO.
- 1989: Telehouse Center (Staten Island, NY) becomes operational. It is custom designed to operate as a data center, the facility ensures continuous operation of client mission critical IT systems.
- 1990: Noburi Fuji Becomes President and CEO of Telehouse America.
- 1992: Akio Yamamoto is Named President and CEO of the Company.
- 1995: Toshio Kojima is Named President and CEO of the Company.
- 1996: NYIIX first becomes operational at Manhattan Center.
- 1997: Broadway Center (25 Broadway, NYC) becomes operational. Yasuhiro Shintani Becomes President and CEO of the Company.
- 1998: Los Angeles Center (626 Wilshire Blvd., CA) becomes operational.
- 2000: LAIIX becomes operational in L.A. Center; Broadway Center is expanded.
- 2001: Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) peering offered at Broadway and L.A. Centers.
- 2002: Hideki Akazawa Named President and CEO of Telehouse America.
- 2003: Telehouse America launches additional NYIIX Point at 60 Hudson Street.
- 2004: Masahiro Furuya Appointed President and CEO of Telehouse America. Telehouse and Tiscali Partner with RIS Project to support Global Internet Community. Telehouse America is nominated for the "Intelligent Building of the Year Award" by the ICF (Intelligent Community Forum).
- 2005: Telehouse launches additional Internet Exchange point at 111 Eighth Avenue. Telehouse America Debuts Managed IT Services Offering.
- 2006: Telehouse Successfully Completes SAS 70, Type II Audit. Toshiaki Miki Named President and CEO of Telehouse America.
- 2007: Broadway Center expands power management capabilities, resulting in aedundant, N+1 configuration
- 2008: Yasushi Kubota Becomes First Concurrent President and CEO of both KDDI America and Telehouse America. KDDI announces plans to expand its global data center business, which bears the Telehouse name, to 14 regions worldwide, giving Telehouse a presence in the following countries:

Additional NYIIX Connection Points Added to the Telehouse Center in Staten Island, 32 Ave of Americas in Manhattan, and 165 Halsey St. in Newark, NJ.
- 2009: Telehouse America launches IP Transit service. Company announces its global data center footprint and managed services at ITU Telecom World 2009.
- 2010: Telehouse expands its data center footprint in China with Telehouse Shanghai. Telehouse America announces IX Anywhere, proving global connections to the largest internal peering exchange points globally.
Telehouse expands its data center footprint to Hanoi, Vietnam. Telehouse launches new service, Data Center Anywhere.
- 2011: Telehouse America opens newest data center in New York City – Telehouse Chelsea Center, offering customers 60,000 square feet of colocation space. Telehouse America officially expands NYIIX Peering Exchange to the new facility. Telehouse also opens a new data center in Istanbul, Turkey, marking the 41st location for Telehouse. Telehouse announces the launch of another new data center in Hong Kong, which opened in December 2011, marking the 42nd data center in the Telehouse portfolio and fourth data center in China.
- 2012: Telehouse launches its first data center in Frankfurt, Germany, marking the 43rd data center in the Telehouse global portfolio.
