Taylor Benjamin (born March 27, 1990 in Etobicoke, Ontario) is a Canadian-born Guyanese footballer who currently plays for SV Fortuna Regensburg in the Landesliga Bayern-Mitte. He is also a member of the Guyanese national football team.
Career
College and Amateur
Benjamin attended Woodroffe High School in Ottawa, Ontario, played youth soccer with Ottawa Royals S.C. and FC Outaouais. He played one year of OCAA soccer at Algonquin College. After one season, he moved to Limeira, Brazil to play for Associação Atlética Internacional.
Professional
Benjamin signed his first professional contract when he signed for Capital City F.C. of the Canadian Soccer League on May 18, 2011.[1] He made his professional debut on 20 May 2011, in a 2–0 loss to Toronto Croatia. He helped Ottawa secure a postseason berth by finishing third in the overall standings. He reached the CSL Championship final, but suffered a loss to Toronto Croatia.[2] In 2013, he signed with Kingston FC, and won the regular season championship. He reached the CSL Championship finals with Kingston, but yet again fell short in claiming the championship after losing to SC Waterloo Region.[3]
In 2014, he was transferred to London City, but midway through the season went abroad to Trinidad and Tobago to sign with Morvant Caledonia United. [4] He also had a stint with North East Stars in 2014.[5] In 2015, he went to Europe to sign with SV Fortuna Regensburg of the Landesliga Bayern-Mitte.
International
On November 11, 2011, Benjamin was called up to Guyana for their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad & Tobago.[6] He made his international debut in the return-leg against Trinidad at Hasely Crawford Stadium on November 15, 2011.[7]
