Surajbhan Singh is a former member of parliament (MP) of India. He was elected to the parliament from Bihar contesting on a ticket from Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). His wife, Veena Devi, is a MP from Munger parliamentary constituency on a LJP ticket. He is a very controversial figure.[1]
Background family and education
He was born in Balia Bihar in Begusarai. He belongs to Bhumihar caste.[2]
Political career
He started his Carrier in politics as Henchman of Dilip Singh and his Brother Anant singh but later he contested Assembly election of Bihar in 2000 and Defeated his godfather Dilip Singh by huge margin. After that he was elected MLA from the Mokama (Vidhan Sabha constituen Mokama) then became MP for Munger on a LJP ticket. Currently he is debarred from contesting due to conviction in the Brij Behari Prasad murder case. His wife is MP for the seat at present, having defeated Lalan Singh of the Janata Dal (United) party.
Other profession
He is also a contractor. He has taken the huge contract of Indian Railways. He also takes contracts of bigger road project in Bihar.
Murder trial
Surajbhan Singh was alleged to have shot and killed Rami Singh, a resident of Madhurapur village in Begusarai district on 16 January 1992. On 24 June 2008, he was found guilty by a Bihar court.[3]
