Steven W. Cantrell is a United States Coast Guard member currently serving as the 12th and current Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard. He assumed the duties of MCPOCG on May 22, 2014, relieving Michael P. Leavitt. Prior to being named to the MCPOCG post, he was Command Master Chief of the Coast Guard's Atlantic Area, based in Portsmouth, Virginia. Cantrell is also the Coast Guard's 12th Silver Ancient Mariner, an honor bestowed upon the enlisted member holding the enlisted cutterman qualification the longest; in this title, he succeeded Master Chief Petty Officer Lloyd Pierce, command master chief of the Coast Guard Academy.[1]

Education

MCPOCG Cantrell holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Business Administration. Among numerous service schools, he attended Class 45 of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy and National Defense University's Keystone Senior Enlisted Course.
