Sternocera aequisignata is a species of beetles belonging to the Buprestidae family called 'Jeerjimbe' in Kannada language.
Description
Sternocera aequisignata can reach a length of about 30–50 millimetres (1.2–2.0 in). Elytra and pronotum have a beautiful metallic emerald iridescence. Pronoum is densely punctured. These beetles have a short life span of 3 to 4 weeks in their adult stage. The life cycle lasts about two years.
Tradition
It was common in some of the ancient refined cultures of Asia to attach beetlewing pieces as an adornment to paintings, textiles and jewelry. In Thailand beetlewings of wood–boring beetles belonging to the species Sternocera aequisignata were preferred for beetlewing decoration.
Distribution
This species occurs from India to Thailand and Myanmar.
