Stayclip
Stayclip is a form of shirt collar stiffener (also known as collar stays).
Stayclip is a patented design that stores a set of collar stiffeners which have specially designed holes in their ends. The Stayclip system uses a unique holder with a clip, to keep the set of collar stiffeners together. By pressing a button on the holder, the arms of the Stayclip open and close to provide easy access to the stiffeners.
The collar stiffeners are available in a myriad of materials including platinum (with diamonds), gold plated brass, sterling silver, stainless steel and vinyl.
History
Stayclip is an organizer for collar stays. In 2004, a young Chicago attorney, tired of looking for his collar stays in the morning, made a device that could hang on a wall mount next to his dress shirts. So he put a hole in all of his collar stays, placed them on the Stayclip's ring and hung them next to his dress shirt by using a gentle adhesive and magnets. The simple concept gained traction in 2005 when the Stayclip was picked up as a top 100 product for men by Men's Health magazine. Within just a few years Stayclip had manufactured over a million collar stays. In 2006, Stayclip introduced a new line of collar stays called the Stayclip Signature Series. These collar stays are made from solid platinum and gold with diamond enhancements.
In 2006 Stayclip also launched licensing operations to mass-produce collar stays for major hotels, clothing designers, and corporations. This involved highly customizable engraving using a variety of manufacturing methods. Stayclip expanded collar stay manufacturing by adding different "bendable" metals such as non-magnetic high grade stainless steel and titanium. These metals are very durable, yet allow someone wearing a dress shirt to adjust the collar by adding a slight curve to it while in the dress shirt.
In 2008, Stayclip expanded significantly into the consumer market by offering a wide array of custom engraving options. The Stayclip Secrets Series allows loved ones to add secret messages. Stayclip collar stays can also be engraved with monograms on any kind of material and are packaged in a handsome gift box. In 2008, a major high end department store selected the Stayclip as its primary brand of collar stays.
Prior to 2004, very little innovation had taken place with collar stays. Stayclip is credited with adding a significant amount of education about collar stays and spurring innovation in this accessory for men. For example, Stayclip invented titanium collar stays and the concept of using collar stays to shape the dress shirt collar - not to mention the obvious inventiveness of hanging collar stays on a ring (much like keys on a keychain). The use of Stayclip collar stays is widespread to include former US Presidents, billionaires and US military servicemen.
Stayclip has two patents, one for the design of the collar stay and the second one for the utility of the Stayclip organizer. In 2004, BG & Sons, LLC became the exclusive owner of the Stayclip brand. In 2006, KJ Beckett obtained the UK license for the collar stiffeners organiser.
