Star Awards 2012 (Chinese: 红星大奖 2012) was a double television award ceremony held in Singapore. It is part of the annual Star Awards organised by MediaCorp for the two free-to-air channels, MediaCorp Channel 8 and MediaCorp Channel U. Star Awards 2012 was telecasted 'LIVE' on Channel 8, on 22 April 2012 and 29 April 2012. Both ceremonies commenced at 1900 hrs, where the results were announced. The 1st ceremony was held at the MediaCorp TV Theatre while the 2nd ceremony was held at Marina Bay Sands. In addition, Astro AEC (Malaysia) also broadcast the ceremony 'live' on 29 April 2012.

As with the previous two years, viewers was able to catch the presentation of the Professional awards (given out to backstage crew and scriptwriters) on Channel 8. The ceremony was aired live on April 22, while the annual Star Awards prize presentation (for performance based and popularity awards) was aired on April 29. A post-show was held after the awards ceremony on April 29, which was telecasted on Channel U at 2200hrs.^[1]

The Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes and Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes was decided by telepoll and online voting. For the first time in the awards' history, online voting was included. While public voting was traditionally done via telepoll voting only, this year's results combined 50% telepoll voting and 50% online voting. Show 2 Results started on a Thursday and ended on Sunday, 9.00pm.

Consecutive nominees and awardees, firsts in Top 10

• The nominees for the "Best Current Affairs Presenter" award are the same throughout three consecutive years - 2010, 2011 and 2012; while the nominees for the "Best News Presenter" award are the same throughout two consecutive years - 2011 and 2012. Each award was received by two awardees this year.
• Mark Lee received the Best Variety Show Host award for the same title he received in 2010.
• The public voting awards for drama was bagged by Rui En and Elvin Ng this year. They were awarded the Most Favourite Female Character and Most Favourite Male Character awards respectively for the consecutive second time. Both of them went on to receive the Most Favourite Onscreen Couple award. Elvin Ng also won the Systema Charming Smile Award for two years consecutively.
• Pierre Png and Ben Yeo were awarded the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes award for the first time this year, left by All Time Favourite Artiste Tay Ping Hui. Rebecca Lim and Paige Chua were also awarded the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes award for the first time this year, due to Quan Yi Fong not being nominated for the award. Cynthia Koh was also awarded for the second time since 1997.

30th drama anniversary

• As part of the MediaCorp Channel 8's anniversary special celebrating 30 years of Chinese language drama in Singapore, past SBC/TCS/MediaCorp stars such as Chen Xiuhuan, Yang Libing, Moses Lim, Jack Neo, Jacelyn Tay, Vincent Ng, Sharon Au and Huang Biren were invited as special guests and awards presenters.^[2]

• Footage of Tay Ping Hui and Bryan Wong winning the Best Actor and Favourite Host respectively were seen in a skit in Star Awards 2015 Show 1.
• Footage of Dennis Chew winning the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes was seen in a skit in Star Awards 2015 Show 1, except that he jumped for a total of four times in the footage, not two.
