The Springfield Police Department is the law enforcement agency responsible for the city of Springfield, Illinois. As of August 2015 the city started to switch over from Ford Crown Victorias to Ford Explorers. The agency is also in the process of changing car logos. The Springfield Police Department has 6 divisions: Hostage Negotiation Team, Emergency Response Team, Mobile Field Force Team, Honors Guard, Boat Patrol, and Crisis Intervention Team.[1]
School Safety
The agency has a school safety division to keep schools safe and act as resource officers. Kids in 1st grade are told about gun and drug safety.
Fallen officers
Since the establishment of the Springfield Police Department, 10 officers have died in the line of duty.[2]

- Glock 17 with mounted TLR-1 issued to all officers unless the officer chooses to carry his/her own handgun.
- Armalite M16A2 issued to rifle qualified officers
- Remington 870 or Mossberg 590 issued to shotgun qualified officers
- R700P or AR-10 with a scope issued to SWAT sharp shooters
- X26 or X2 Taser is issued to qualified officers
- OC spray is issued to all officers
- Extendable straight baton issued to all officers
