Speed limits in Hong Kong
Most expressways in Hong Kong have a speed limit of 80 km/h. Older ones, such as Island Eastern Corridor and East Kowloon Corridor, as a rule have a 70 km/h limit. Expressways in the north of the New Territories and others including the West Kowloon Expressway are limited to 100 km/h, and North Lantau Highway to 110 km/h, which is the highest speed limit in Hong Kong.
All roads with streetlighting at intervals of 200 meters or less have a default a 50 km/h limit. Some mountain roads, most notably on Lantau Island, have a lower 30 km/h limit. However, some connecting main roads which are not classified as expressways also have the speed limit increased to 70 km/h and 80 km/h for a few other connecting roads. Many roads with this speed limit are named "Bypass".
A speeding offence under 10 km/h over the speed limit is not usually enforced - many drivers in Hong Kong travel within this range.
