South Dakota Highway 13 is a state route that runs from U.S. Highway 14, 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Elkton, southerly to South Dakota Highway 34, approximately 2.5 miles (4.0 km) south of Flandreau. The route is 28 miles (45 kilometers) in length.
History
When route numbers were first assigned in South Dakota in the 1920s, this route was a segment of South Dakota Highway 11. Approximately between 1932 and 1935, this segment was separated from SD 11, and was assigned as SD 13. At that time, it also was extended east from its original north end to Elkton, then north to U.S. Highway 14. This was due to a rerouting of the latter in the early 1930s.
