She is the daughter of Celia (née Onkels) and Frank Satenstein (1924-1984), a television director and producer. She has a sister, Sloan Satenstein Klein, and a brother, Louis. Her father worked for CBS Television and was known for directing many episodes of The Honeymooners. Her parents divorced and her mother married James Hogan, a lawyer. Portrayal in media
Her former boyfriend, actor Matt Damon, wrote her into his Academy Award-winning screenplay for the 1997 film Good Will Hunting. British actress Minnie Driver was cast and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as a fictionalized version of Skylar. The film depicts her time studying medicine at Harvard while she was dating Damon. She is credited in the film with a 'Thank You' for allowing her name and persona to be used.[8]
