Shobu Yarlagadda (born 19 March 1971) is an Indian American film producer, and the son-in-law of veteran film maker K. Raghavendra Rao. He is the co-founder and CEO of Arka Mediaworks, a film production company known for its works exclusively in Telugu cinema. Shobhu has garnered the National Film Award, two state Nandi Awards, two Filmfare South Awards.[1] In 2015, Shobhu produced Baahubali: The Beginning, which recorded the highest grossing Indian film within India.[2][3][4] Touted to be the most expensive Indian film, the film was featured in the BBC's documentary on 100 Years of Indian cinema.[5][6] [7]

Baahubali: The Beginning, was screened at the Open Cinema Strand of Busan International Film Festival, Indian Film Festival The Hague,[8] Sitges Film Festival in Spain,[9] Utopiales Film Festival in France,[10] Golden Horse Film Festival in Taipei, Taiwan,[11] Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia,[12] L'Etrange International Film Festival in Paris,[13] Five Flavours Film Festival in Poland,[14] Hawaii International Film Festival in Honolulu, Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival in Brussels, Belgium,[15][16] and the Cannes Film Festival.[17] The film has garnered the Best Feature Film, and the Best Special Effects at the 63rd National Film Awards.[18] The film was also nominated for five categories at the 42nd Saturn Awards.[19]

Early life

Shobu Yarlagadda is the son-in-law of veteran director K. Raghavendra Rao. Shobhu was Born in Gudivada in Krishna District.[1] He graduated in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Andhra University in 1992. He went on to Texas A&M and graduated in Agricultural Engineering in 1995. For over an year and a half, he worked as an Air Resources Engineer in Greater Los Angeles Area for California Air Resources Board. In 2001 he established Arka Mediaworks with Prasad Devineni.[1]

Career

In 2001, he established Arka Mediaworks; Arka means sunrays in Sanskrit. It produces television content in six languages (Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Oriya, Bangla and Marathi). He has worked as line producer for films such as Morning Raaga, and Anaganaga O Dheerudu. He was Executive Producer for films such as Bobby and Pandurangadu[20]
