Shahnewaz Kakoli [lower-greek 1] is a Bangladeshi film, theatre and telefilm director. She made her debut as a director in big screens with the film Uttarer Sur which has been screened in different international film festivals like– Goa International Film Festival, Kolkata International Film Festival (2012), Third Eye Mumbai Film Festival (in Mumbai).[1][2]
Career
Before starting feature film direction Kakoli directed several telefilms and theatres. She is also a painter. She is influence by Bengali film director Ritwik Ghatak. In a 1 November 2012 interview Kakoli told–[3]
Like all Bengalis, I too have grown up watching movies of Satyajit Ray and Ghatak, though I like Ghatak more and I idolise him. I am greatly inspired by him and consequently my movie 'Uttarer Sur' (Northern Symphony) too is influenced by Ghatak
In her first big screen film Uttarer Sur she dealt with life of a singer and her little daughter who sing (and beg) in the street to earn their living.[3]
