Sefton Payne (born 22 August 1971) is an English former professional snooker player.

Career

Sefton Payne turned professional in 1992, but his career was cut short as a professional due to unscrupulous sponsor contracts. He reached a world ranking of 196th in the world for the 1995-96 season just after a few tournaments (this certainly doesn't reflect his true world ranking). Payne lost his professional status in 1997 but continued to play money matches and tournaments without a professional status.

The highlight of Payne's career was making two 147s back to back in a money match at the Runneymede Hotel, making him the only person in the world to do so. He reached the last 96 of the 1994 World Snooker Championships, where he lost 9–10 to Steve Newbury. Payne's career was subject to controversy; some claim the referee should have disqualified Newbury for cheating.

To date, Payne has won over two hundred national pool and snooker tournaments and countless substantial money matches. He is well known and considered to be one of the best players in the world by his fellow professionals.

Payne is currently practicing in Twickenham Church street club.
