Sam Easterson (born 1972, Glastonbury, Connecticut)[1] is an American video artist known for his work with animals.

Early life and education

In 1990, Easterson moved to New York City where he became a student at the The Cooper Union for the Advancement for Science and Art. While at The Cooper Union, Easterson studied with artist Tony Oursler.[2] After graduating from The Cooper Union in 1994, Easterson moved to Minnesota, where he later received an M.S. degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.[3]

Work

Venues that have featured Easterson's work include the Whitney Museum of American Art (1997 Biennial), the Walker Art Center, the Sundance Channel, dOCUMENTA (13), the New York Film Festival, the International Center of Photography (1999 Triennial), the World Wide Video Festival, the New Museum of Contemporary Art, the Late Show With David Letterman, and Animal Planet, among hundreds of others. He has been included in many group exhibitions, including "Bug-Eyed," curated by Patricia Watts, at Turtle Bay Exploration Park in California. [4]

Easterson is a recipient of numerous national grants/awards, including the Louis Comfort Tiffany prize and a Creative Capital Award. [5][6]
