Sabiha Derviş Sertel (1895, Thessaloniki (Ottoman Empire) September 2, 1968 Baku, Azerbaijan SSR) was the first professional female journalist and one of the first feminist writers in Turkey with Dönmeh ancestry.[1] Educated in a progressive high school, Sertel began writing essays at the age of sixteen on women's rights and social issues.[2] In 1915 she married Mehmet Zekeriya Sertel, also a famous journalist in Salonica and Istanbul. She worked for the newspaper Tan where she was writing the section Görüşler.
