S. R. Prabhu is an Indian film producer. He was a partner in Studio Green (2006–13) and produced 12 Tamil-language films and distributed 18 films in Tamil and Telugu. He and his brother S. R. Prakashbabu opened the production company Dream Warrior Pictures in 2010. He's also a partner in Potential Studios, another film production company. He is a relative of the veteran actor Sivakumar and cousins of leading actors Suriya and Karthi.

History

Studio Green

While at Studio Green, produced and distributed the film Sillunu Oru Kaadhal starring Suriya, in 2006. Next production was Paruthiveeran, introducing Karthi. Following grand success of Paruthiveeran, they produced Singam, starring Suriya, directed by Hari, also become great success at the box office, highest-grossing Tamil film in 2010. They produced Naan Mahaan Alla starring Karthi and Kajal Agarwal, followed by Siruthai starring Karthi and Tamannaah Bhatia. Simultaneously, they distributed Yamudu (Telugu version of Singam) and Aawara (Telugu version of Paiyaa). In 2012, started venturing into small budget films by acquiring Attakathi and Kumki. In 2013, they produced and distributed Alex Pandian starring Karthi and distributed Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga. They also distributed Soodhu Kavvum which opened to highly positive critical reaction. Produced All in All Azhagu Raja (2013), Biriyani (2013), Madras (2014) and Komban (2015), all starred by Karthi.

Aruvi

Dream Warrior Pictures

S R Prabhu along with this brother S. R. Prakashbabau, founded a new production company called Dream Warrior Pictures and its maiden production was Saguni (2012) starring Karthi and Pranitha, which was a box office hit. Initially producers shot the film with Salim Ghouse as villain, while watching double positive, they felt for the change of villain and re-shot the entire portion with Prakash Raj as villain.[1] After Saguni, they have started their next production and the movie is titled as Kaashmora (2016), which is to be high budget film in Karthi's career. Karthi, Nayanthara,[2] Sri Divya, Vivek are the protagonists in Kaashmora.[3][4] This movie turns to be a horror comedy flick, directed by Gokul, whose previous movie was Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara and music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan. Kaashmora involves huge VFX work with CG footage amounting to close to 70 mins.[5]

Next project was titled as Joker (2016), directed by Raju Murugan, whose previous was Cuckoo. Guru Somasundaram is the protagonist of the Joker movie.[6][7] This movie emphasis the necessity of toilets for all rural homes. Even the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed this issue. Hence medias are asking Prime Minister to watch the film.[8] In the movie, protagonist thinks himself as The President of India.[9] Joker explores different side of me, says Guru Somasundaram.[10] Superstar of Tamil Cinema Padma Vibhushan Rajnikath praised Joker team.[11]

Simultaneously, the Company started producing another movie titled Aruvi, which is an Eco Social Drama, directed by Arun Prabhu. The Team had been hunting for lead artist through all social medias.[12] Aruvi made its International Premiere at Shanghai International Film Festival in June 2016.[13] Producer S R Prabhu says, We are so much proud that Aruvi has become one of the best films produced under our banner.[14] Along side Aruvi, Kootathil Orthan is also started which is directed by Gnanavel, his debut movie.[15][16] Ashok Selvan and Priya Anand are doing the lead roles in this movie.[17] After Kaashmora, Aruvi and Kootathil Oruthan, the production house is producing Karthi's 16th movie and Suriya's 36th movie, cast and crew is to be finalised for both the projects.[18]

Potential Studios

Under Potential Studios,[19] first movie was Maya (2015),[20] starring Aari, Nayantara, directed by Ashwin Saravanan, which is his debut movie.[21] The movie won many awards for Nayantara in various events. The movie has simultaneous release in Telugu as Mayuri. Now the studio is producing Maanagaram (2016) as their second, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, starred by Sundeep Kishan, Sri and Regina Cassandra.[22]
